General Information

|
Hokkaido is the northernmost island
of Japan, and has a population of 5.8 million. Comparing
the population density to the main island of Honshu, Hokkaido
has 69 people per square km and Honshu has 334 per square
km, so it is relatively sparsely populated. It is a beautiful
island that is a famous eco-tourism destination. It has
vast areas of forest, mountains and agricultural land.
Obihiro
is a city with approximately 170,000 inhabitants. It is
a modern looking city and is well serviced with hotels and
restaurants because it is a regional business centre.
Otofuke is a town that is located on the northern
side of the Tokachi river relative to Obihiro. Its population
is approximately 43,000. The Kibou Gaoka Rally Park (or
Hope Hill Rally Park) has Rally HQ on one side of a large
tarmac area and the Media Centre and Competition Secretariat
on the other. It was a cattle sales area, with stalls and
a showing area. Most of the space, however is taken up by
a large tarmac car park where the service bays will be located.

From Tokyo/Narita Airport
Take an Airport Limousine bus from Narita Airport
to Haneda Airport. The transfer costs JPY3,000,
and tickets are available from the Airport Limousine
/ Information desk that is against the opposite
wall as you come out of the arrivals hall. Payment
by credit card is not always possible. At Haneda
you will need to get off the bus at the JAL Terminal
(Terminal 1).
From Osaka/Kansai Airport
Transfers to domestic flights are at the same
terminal. Follow the signs to direct you to the
departures area.
From Sapporo/New Chitose Airport
From New Chitose Airport south of Sapporo you
can travel to Obihiro either by car, train, or
by bus. By train or by car it takes about three
hours; a bit longer by bus. For those coming by
train a transfer is required at Minami Chitose
Station (South Chitose), approximately three minutes
after departing the airport. Tickets one-way will
cost about JPY6,000. Those coming by car should
follow the signs to Obihiro. This includes an
expressway where a toll of approximately JPY1,800
will be charged at the exit. By bus, a transfer
must be made in central Sapporo.
From Tokachi-Obihiro Airport
Buses (JPY1,000) coordinated with arriving and
departing flights, provide a shuttle service to
and from most hotels. Taxis and rental cars are
also available at the airport. Travelling time
is approximately 25 minutes. |
